“For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity.” Moroni 8:18

Isn’t that one of the most comforting things you’ve ever heard?  We can trust God because He is constant!  He is not partial, He is not variable, He is not transient.  His nature will never suddenly change.

He is 100% here for us 100% of the time.

Think of it!  Because He is unchangeable, He is 100% trustworthy.  I know I can give my whole heart to Him because unlike some of our relationships in mortality, I know He will not go anywhere.  He will not become disinterested in us, He will not give up on us.  He will always be there!

God loved His children in the past, and He loves His children today.  He spoke to prophets in the past, He speaks to prophets today.  He performed miracles in the past, He performs miracles today.  He gave us commandments in the past, He gives us commandments today.  He led a church through His Son Jesus Christ in the past, and He leads a church through Jesus Christ today.

Doesn’t it all just make sense?!

So today, make the decision to trust Him.  You will never regret it, because He will never fail you. ♥

Be blessed!

Trusting in God’s Promises

Lately I have been thinking about doubt.  Let’s be honest, we all experience it sometimes.  Whether it is doubt in our own abilities, doubt in other people, doubt in answers to questions, even doubt in God.

However, I’ve also been thinking a lot about promises!  And not just any promises, but God’s promises.  One definition states that a promise is a commitment to someone that you will definitely do something or that something will definitely happen in the future.  It is something we should be able to trust in, and something that should usually bring us a sense of hope and assurance.

Now, not everyone keeps their promises.  But the Lord and Master, our Savior Jesus Christ, DOES.

I have recently learned a lot about how trustworthy He really is.  This past summer, all the missionaries in the New York Rochester Mission read the entire Book of Mormon together in just under 9 weeks.  We marked every reference to Christ–His attributes, His words, His names, His doctrines.  It was the best challenge EVER!  I made some connections as I found myself in its pages:

People in the Book of Mormon, just like today, were faced with extreme difficulties and trials.  They struggled with their faith, they experienced profound disappointments, they saw families torn by discord, and there were times when they were in spiritual or physical bondage.  There were many of them who faced doubts.  There were many times when things just didn’t make sense.  Yet despite all of these struggles, there were those who remained faithful to the Lord and trusted that His promises would be fulfilled.  Despite how at times everything seemed against their favor and they were perhaps wondering how God could possibly be answering their prayers, they held fast to their trust in Him and never doubted that He would fulfill His word.  Often His promises were not fulfilled until much later than they had supposed, and yet for those who kept His commandments and remained close to Him, they always were fulfilled.

Think for a moment.  What are the promises that God has made to you?  Do you know them?  Do you truly understand the promises that He extends to all those who are faithful to His name?

He promises that He will be with us and never forsake us.  He promises us that in our hour of trial, He will not leave us comfortless.  He promises us that whatever we leave behind for His sake, He will give us a hundredfold in return.  He promises us that despite whatever challenges we pass through, we will find a fullness of joy as we endure righteously. He promises us that we will have all that His Father has.  Ultimately, He promises us everlasting salvation and eternal life.

And these are just the beginning.  What greater promises could you have than from the Creator of all things?  His word NEVER fails!

So if you’re confused, discouraged, doubtful, or starting to question whether God really hears your prayers, don’t worry. Be patient. Because “God is powerful to the fulfilling of all His words. … He will fulfill his promises which he shall make unto you, for he has fulfilled his promises which he has made unto our fathers.” (Alma 37:16-17)

It Will All Be Worth It

“And the Lord provided for them that they should hunger not, neither should they thirst; yea, and he also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were swallowed up in the joy of Christ.” (Alma 31:38)

I don’t know what afflictions each and every one of you are going through.  I don’t know your lives, I don’t know your fears, your worries, your circumstances, your weaknesses, or your challenges.  But I know someone who does–the Savior, Jesus Christ.  And I have come to learn in a very real way that no matter how many afflictions we have, no matter how long we feel we have suffered, all of those afflictions will be swallowed up in the joy of Christ.

What does this mean to me?  It simply means that it will all be worth it.

I promise you that you will not struggle forever.  Press forward!  Trust in God!  Pray to Him!  Look to the light!  Just like the Lord promised Alma and his brothers during their own afflictions, He will strengthen you.  The moment will come when you will be filled with the purest, divinest joy–the joy of Christ that comes as one lives faithful to His teachings.

It will all be worth it.

So to all you who are feeling like your afflictions are starting to pile up:  take heart, for that means that you have an even greater amount of joy ahead to swallow them up!

The Book That Changed My Life Forever

My dear friends, do you know what yesterday was?  MARCH 26th!

This day changed the world forever!  Why?  Well, I’ll tell you one thing, it’s not because the 1st lip-reading tournament was held in America that day in 1926, so don’t even go there.  It’s not even because the greatest dad in the whole wide world was born this day (even though that alone changed my world forever and I am eternally grateful for it!  Happy birthday, Dad!)

The reason is this: on this glorious day THE BOOK OF MORMON WAS FIRST PUBLISHED in Palmyra, New York 1830!  HAPPINESS!  Not only do I get to serve at the Grandin Building visitors’ center where it was first printed and made available to the world, but I get to tell people every day on my mission why this book has changed my life forever:

What is the Book of Mormon?

“The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God’s dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains the fulness of the everlasting gospel.” (Introduction to the Book of Mormon)

Why is it important?

  • “It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come” (see introduction). Peace?  Salvation?  Guidance?  Sounds pretty great to me so far!
  • It brings us closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Joseph Smith, the prophet who translated this record by the gift and power of God Himself, testified that it is “the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”  Anyone who wants to get nearer to God, whether they have strong faith already or no faith at all, will come nearer to Him by reading and praying about this book of scripture.
  • It brings us the record of Christ visiting His people in the Americas, just like He told His apostles in the Bible! (See John 10:16 then 3 Nephi 15:21). “The Book of Mormon makes it clear that Jesus Christ’s message and His atonement are not for one group of people at one time. They are for everyone, everywhere, from the beginning of the earth to the end. Having the Book of Mormon as another testament of Jesus Christ reminds us that He is mindful of every one of us.” (http://www.mormon.org/beliefs/book-of-mormon)
  • It is the convincing evidence that Jesus Christ leads and guides a church today–that He has restored the church He organized when He was on the earth nearly 2,000 years ago.  Think about it…if God Himself had a church that He was leading, wouldn’t you want to be a part of it? I WOULD! (http://www.mormon.org/beliefs/restoration)

Does the Book of Mormon replace the Bible?

Absolutely not!  In fact, the opposite is true.  It supports and sustains what the Bible says, gives it more validity, and clarifies concepts that may be difficult to understand.  It actually tells us to read the Bible and affirms that its message is true! (Mormon 7:8-10).  Just like two eye-witnesses strengthen an argument in court, the Book of Mormon and the Bible both testify of Christ, His divinity as the Son of God, and the truthfulness of His Gospel.

How can I know that the Book of Mormon really is the word of God?

Let’s get one thing straight: This book is either completely true or it is completely not.  So how can we know it?  Easy.  1) Honest study. 2) Humble prayer.

I promise you, my friends, that your loving Father in Heaven wants you to become familiar with this book.  He is aware of you, and He wants to fill your mind with light, happiness, truth, love, and the fullness of His everlasting Gospel.  Give it a chance!  Honestly study it, apply its principles to your lives, and pray with a sincere heart to know whether or not it is of Him.  I know that the Holy Ghost will answer you through feelings of peace and assurance, because He has answered me in my own plea for answers.  This book has changed my life forever for the better, and it can change yours.

If it is not true, what will you have lost?  A handful of days reading a book?

But if it is…what will you have gained?

A sure knowledge and testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ and of His kingdom established once again on the earth.  It is this testimony alone that leads us to ETERNAL LIFE.

Give it a chance!  And if you don’t have one, get one here for free. 🙂

This book of scripture goes hand in hand with the Bible and is another testament of Jesus Christ!

“The Most Joyous to the Soul”

To all those who are seeking for love, to all those who simply want to feel valued and appreciated, to all those who desire eternal happiness, you may ask the questions:

Where can I find that kind of pure, unfailing love? What will bring my heart enduring joy?

The beautiful answer can be found in the scriptures, in the words of an angel speaking to a prophet of the Lord who had similar questions:

“Yea, it is the love of God, which sheddeth itself abroad in the hearts of the children of men; wherefore, it is the most desirable above all things.  And he spake unto me, saying: Yea, and the most joyous to the soul.” (1 Nephi 11:21-23, emphasis  added)

I know from the bottom of my heart that God is there.  He loves us, and that love passes all understanding.  So in this time of Valentines, turn your heart towards your Great Creator, and let Him fill you with His infinite love!

Faith Precedes the Miracle

“For behold, I am God; and I am a God of miracles; and I will show unto the world that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and I work not among the children of men save it be according to their faith.” (2 Nephi 27:23)

This week I have been focusing a lot on faith and how I can be a more faith-filled disciple of Christ.  Throughout the past couple days, I have really come to understand that faith does precede the miracle!  As I’ve worked hard to dispel doubt or negativity and increase my faith, I have truly seen more miracles than ever.  All I can say is… God is GOOD and His word is never failing.  Trust Him and let your faith guide you!

Scripture of the Week

“And now, as the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which was just—yea, it had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them—therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the word of God.” Alma 31:5

There is POWER in the word of God.  As we cling to it, in times of struggle as well as in times of joy, it will lead us to Christ.  Let us all take the advice of Alma, a prophet of God, and try it!
